Derm Shield
Please refer to this page after I have tattooed you. Follow this step by step process to ensure that your tattoo heals flawlessly.
Please,
Do NOT submerge in water
Do NOT expose the tattoo to direct sunlight
DO make clean choices
Step 1
Once I have tattooed you, I will cover the area with Derm Shield. If you notice any air bubbles beneath the wrap, gently push them towards the edge so that the air escapes.
Please do not pop these air bubbles as the environment beneath the wrap needs to stay clean at all times.
During this time, you can shower and let the wrap get wet. Do not scrub the area. Instead, wash around it as I have cleaned the tattoo beneath the wrap.
Allow the wrap to do it’s job for 24 hours. If your wrap falls off prematurely, you can skip to Step 3.
Step 2
The next day, you will notice a mixture of blood, ink and plasma beneath the Derm Shield. Don’t freak out! Your body is just doing it’s thing.
Typically, this kind of fluid would leak onto your bed sheets overnight so the wrap saved you from some thick scabbing and an abstract painting situation on your fancy linens!
You now want to remove this wrap. I find that it’s easier to remove it in the shower under running water and soapy suds. (I recommend Dial Gold or any anti-bacterial soap.)
I like to wet the area with lukewarm water, lather up some soap and grab onto the edge and pull away from the tattoo parallel to your skin. You will notice the wrap lifting off. You can then continue to add soapy suds while pulling the wrap away from your skin slowly.
Step 3
Once your wrap is off, you want to make sure that you remove any plasma by washing your tattoo with soap and water. You will know that it’s clean when it is no longer slimy. Pat dry with a clean towel or a paper towel.
During your tattoo session, I provided an extra Derm Shield and instructed you on how to peel and stick it on.
Step 4
Keep this second wrap on for 3-5 days.
Do NOT keep this wrap on for more than a week.
If you notice redness in the area, please remove it and skip to moisturizing.
You will feel tightness and maybe even some itchiness, this is normal.
Do NOT scratch!
Step 5
After your 3-5 days with the wrap, repeat steps 2-3.
You want to use a very thin layer of unscented moisturizer, these are some of my favorites:
Aveeno
Cocoabutter
Coconut oil based moisturizer
Do NOT use fragrances as alcohol irritates the tattoo.
Do NOT use petroleum based aftercare. You want your first ingredient to read “water”
Moisturize frequently, at least 2-3 times a day, when it’s itchy or “tight” feeling. Do NOT scratch! You can gently slap it for relief to get some blood flowing to it.
Healed!
Enjoy your healed tattoo!
Remember to moisturize and use SPF 45+ whenever you are exposed to the sun for an extensive period of time.
Feel free to send me any healed photos via email, I love getting them!
